21-year-old stabbed to death, father’s ear severed in clash

Chandigarh: Holi festivities in Makhan Majra took a brutal turn on Wednesday when a 21-year-old man was stabbed to death and his father's ear was severed during a violent clash between two families.Police said the incident occurred during a Holi ritual in which both families were tearing each other's clothes. The practice sparked an argument between Ankit, the deceased, and Arvind, which quickly escalated into abuses and a scuffle. Ankit's father, Bhagwan Sahni, and their relative Karan intervened and managed to defuse the situation temporarily.However, Arvind, his minor son and other relatives allegedly returned later armed with sharp-edged weapons and attacked Ankit and his family members. Ankit sustained a stab wound to the stomach and was rushed to GMCH-32, where he was declared dead on arrival. Bhagwan suffered multiple injuries, including the severing of one ear, while Karan received eight stitches on his hand.All accused fled the spot after the assault.Based on the statements of the injured and neighbours, Mauli Jagran police registered a murder case against Arvind, Bobby, and others. CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and a manhunt has been launched to trace the absconding suspects.Stabbings in 2026Jan 17 | a 21-year-old youth was stabbed to death in Sector 38. The victim was on his way back after the hearing of a case at the district court in Sector 43. The next day, police arrested accused Krish alias Kasu, 19, and Aryan alias Honey, 18, residents of Dadumajra Colony, Sector 38, Chandigarh. Investigation revealed a long-standing feud between both parties. Earlier, they fought at Bapudham, Sector 17, and Sector 25.Feb 21 | 35-year-old Seema was stabbed to death by her neighbour at her rented house in Daria village. The accused, who lived on rent in the same complex, broke into the victim's room and tried to rape her. When she resisted, he allegedly stabbed and bludgeoned her to death. The victim turned down the marriage proposal of the accused, after which he slashed her neck with a knife.Holi horror in 2025March 14, 2025 | A man — Ankit — was stabbed to death by his neighbour after an argument over smearing colour on him during Holi in Sector 25. The accused Kunal, along with his two friends, forcibly applied colour to Ankit, and when the latter resisted, they started thrashing him. Kunal allegedly took out a sharp-edged weapon and stabbed Ankit multiple times.
